In May 2025, we returned to the room where it happened at the Sherwood Regional Library. This is the same place where NOVA-LUG held its first meeting in 2024. It seems appropriate that three new folks joined us for the first time. As our community and club continues to grow, monthly meetings continue to be hallmarks of active membership. Time spent together sharing, laughing, and building community around the unlimited creativity of LEGO bricks is what joining a LEGO User Group is all about.
We focused on hashing out the details on several large collaborations, specifically our Fantasy layout which continues to expand with fresh ideas and lots of enthusiasm. A preview of parts of this collab may be on display soon with the full layout primering at BrickFair Chantilly in August. There continues to be lots of interest surrounding the Monster Trucks collaboration. A final determination on its future and scheduled premiere was pushed to our June monthly meeting.
For our April Monthly MOC Challenge, members were challenged to build with just regular 1x or 2x bricks; other elements were allowed including plates, technic pieces, modified bricks, etc. Six members took on the challenge, each with a very different approach and two pushing the boundaries of “legal” building techniques. John S. took home the builder favorite, making it his second monthly MOC challenge win of 2025!
Hamilton W. provided copies of 80117 Good Fortune for a very fruitful parts draft at the meeting. With 12 members participating, the draft ate up most of the afternoon so we decided to delay our activity this month to June.
New member Josh O. brought a custom chess build which is planned to take over the Potomac Mills LEGO Store cubby in June. Upcoming display opportunities under consideration and discussion were the Claude Moore Rec Center Play All Day event, the Montgomery Mall Pride month display, the Dolley Madison Library, and the NOVA-LUG layout for BrickFair Chantilly.
We had 22 participants join us at the Sherwood Regional Library for our May 2025 meeting. Huge thanks to the staff and the public visitors who stopped in and asked about the club!
I saw your Pride Month display this evening at Montgomery Mall. It’s great that your group does these public displays of LEGO! Thanks!
I’d like to attend one of your meetings — I will be out of the area July 4-14 so won’t be able to do that one, and I will, like all of you, be at the Chantilly Brickfair on August 2. So I’ll check in with you at your table then. But I’ll put my contact info below anyhow.
